Five kids rescued from Pokhara children’s home

POKHARA, AUG 14 - A committee to monitor child home on Tuesday rescued five children including a girl from an illegally-run children’s home at Nayagaun in Pokhara . A team led by assistant Chief District Officer and coordinator of the monitoring committee Arjun Kumar Sharma rescued the children aged between 7-10 years from Bajura, Dhading, Dang and Makawanpur.

The child home run by the Helpless and Blind Protection Centre was found to have been running without meeting set standards during a monitoring on August 4. District Child Rights Officer Bharatraj Baral, who is also a member of the monitoring team, said that the children were rescued as their lives were at risk due to a lack of proper care in the child home. “Not only the child home has the required permit but it also does not meet set standards,” Baral said. He said that bed rooms of the child home and condition of physical infrastructure were in dilapidated condition while the children were found to have been provided with accommodation under the staircase. The children are currently under the care of CWIN. It is said that the children’s parents are either dead or serving time in jail or married to other persons. CDO Sharma said they would hand over the children to their parents once their whereabouts are established. “They will otherwise be sent to other child homes after providing them necessary advice.”
